“Open your calendar to 180 days from now and write three to five paragraphs of what you expect to have seen and done by then.” Jason Womack
Just about 6 months ago, I posted my answer to Jason’s suggestion that I write out what I expect to have seen and done in these 180 days. (If you’re interested, the link to that blog is here.)
Here’s a quick recap and look toward what is next. I am so excited about the possibilities and projects that are coming up!
The first few months (September 2018 through the end of the year), I expected see a lot of the US on a road trip from San Diego, California to Easton Pennsylvania where I live now. I hoped to and have been spending as much time as possible with my wonderful friend and mentor Frances Hesselbein. What an absolute gift this has been. It has been the experience of a lifetime and thankfully will continue for the foreseeable future.
I’ve learned a lot about the Lehigh Valley, made great friends, and am enjoying meeting with East Coast colleagues and exploring future opportunities with them. As a San Diego native for three generations, I am fascinated by the seasonal changes.
In October, our book Work Is Love Made Visible was published. It has done exceptionally well and we’re still working on promotion. Recently, I was interviewed by Jennifer Rivlin for her podcast series Women Leading Fearlessly, and tomorrow night I’ll be a guest at GWU for John Warren’s master’s in publishing course, Publicity and Promotion.
I have been traveling quite a bit for Marshall Goldsmith Inc., working on many exciting projects, and making sure Marshall gets from “here to there” successfully. January saw me in Salt Lake City, Utah at Silicon Slopes with the Goldsmith-Thompson Growth Accelerator and 23,000 other people. I’ve been in New York quite a bit to meet with various members of the 100 Coaches, publishers, friends, and to work with Hastings Digital to develop online courses for Udemy. We’ve completed 4 video courses for Udemy. You’ll love the new courses with Chester Elton, Tasha Eurich, Erica Dhawan, and Antonio Rodriguez – they are exceptional learning opportunities!
In March I went with Marshall to the UK to the Henley Business School to initiate 100 Coaches Europe. The 100 Coaches Europe are an amazing and talented group and I am looking very forward to continuing our work together. Thanks to Jonathan Passmore, Emily Charles, and all the wonderful people at Henley for making this such a success.
And, I’m working away diligently on my next book. Researching, interviewing, and gathering information. I am so excited for the possibilities. It will be about leadership and communication and explore the leadership philosophy of the great Frances Hesselbein, who is excited to work on it with me.
So, what’s next? In April I’ll work in San Diego with the team on the documentary film that is being made about Marshall. We’ll host a Best of Marshall event in La Jolla on April 13-14. Then, I’ll travel back to Easton for the remainder of the year to work with Marshall, explore future opportunities post Marshall’s “retirement”, and write the book with Frances. Finally, I’m very excited to return to London in November for the 2019 Thinkers50 event and award ceremony. This will be very special as we will see who is selected as the first recipient of the Marshall Goldsmith Distinguished Coaching Award.
So how about you? Did you try this exercise? What did you think you’d see and do? What did happen and what was different and unexpected? I’d love to hear your experiences!
Thank you for reading!
